The Human papillomavirus, or HPV, is the most common sexually transmitted infection in the world today – it affects more than 75% of sexually active Canadians.

Several cancers are associated with HPV. These cancers include:

  • Oropharyngeal
  • Penile
  • Anal
  • Vaginal
  • Vulvar
  • Cervical

This HPV Prevention Week, the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Canada has as its goal to work towards the elimination of cervical cancer through education, awareness and vaccination.
Lower your risk of contracting HPV by using a condom every time you have sex, quit smoking, and getting vaccinated – it’s 90% effective at preventing the HPV types responsible for most genital warts and HPV-related cancers!
